Day 27: The most surprising plot twist or ending
Most surprising plot twist or ending
I'm sorry to say I haven't read enough books in my lifetime to have come across a story that produced a surprising enough plot twist or ending to be mentioned in this post. I'm wracking my brain for something worthy of awarding this to, and all the ones I come up with seem to be only moderately surprising.
When I meet with a book that will make me scream and wail (if only in my head) in response to a shocking aspect of the story, I will definitely let you know.
But for now, I really should finish this challenge already and get on with my life. Hehehe.
I'm sorry for this underwhelming blog post. Maybe I shouldn't have posted at all.

day 26: a book that changed my opinion about something
today's theme says 'changed my opinion' but for these books i don't really mean it that way. kinda more like it grew or altered my opinion of something.
the book thief by markus zusak- war, love, death, but mostly: books.
entangled by cat clarke- cutting & self-inflicted physical pain
gosh i really can't think of any more off the top of my head - i need to read more controversial books, obviously. actually no, I just need to read more books in general.

day 25: a character i can relate to the most
it's kinda difficult to answer this one, because firstly, my favourite characters pass through my mind and then i realise that pretty much all of my favourite characters are very different to myself. So in that sense it might be wrong to say i can relate to them the most. but then again, isn't relatability a quality that makes them my favourite characters? actually no, it isn't. my favourite characters are fictional people that i would want to be more like in real life. they have better humour, better relationships, better personalities and are much braver than i. anyway, i'm getting so off topic.
a character who i can relate well to is not often a character i read about. either that, or they are too forgettable to stick to my memory. relatability, as i have come to realise in my first paragraph, is not a memorable trait in the books i read. or something like that. my opinion sways easily, and is certain to change over time, especially after i read a lot more.
all in all, i don't really have an answer for this one.
but i have a question for you:
"What do you think about relatability in characters?"
btw, blogger is telling me that relatability is not a proper word. but blogger tends to deceive me quite often. we don't have a very sound relationship, it and I.

What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
This one I think I featured on Day 1 of the 30 Day Book Meme, as the best book I read in 2010. I haven't really read any other amnesia-based stories other than this one, but I know that it's worth the read! Liane's writing is effortlessly funny and the witty humour flows smoothly through the novel.
How to Live Forever by Colin Thompson
I picked this up from the school library because I wanted to read another standalone book by this author after Pepper Dreams had such an effect on me. How to Live Forever is definitely much darker, there are scary creatures and characters and some interesting issues that I never really saw too much of in the books I read as a kid. Definitely an intriguing one to check out. But I wouldn't give this to my kid to read if they were younger than 9 years old.

This is pretty much exactly the same objective of the feature "The Time Will Come", where I pick a book that's been sitting on my shelf for some time, one that I still haven't gotten around to reading yet.
One book that I have wanted to read for a long time but still haven't is....

It is probably the obvious choice, but for me there's not even any contest. I had to read P&P in Year 11 English Lit, and the best way to appreciate a work of art and culture is to study it.
I suppose it also helps that the 2005 film adaptation was spectacular. The scenes were so picturesque that it's now exactly how I envision Regency England.

*Day 19 – Favourite book turned into a movie*
I've watched a lot of movies over the years, many of them being film adaptations of books, but I haven't always had the chance to read the book that corresponds to the film.
So I haven't got the best qualifications to give an experienced opinion, I can only really go off what I've seen and read. Which isn't that much.
Without further ado, here are some really great films that I've seen, that were adapted from books (of which I have also read):
Jane Eyre (2011)
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (2005)
Pride and Prejudice (2005)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Sense and Sensibility (1995)

Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen
The title of the novel so perfectly describes the two main characters, Elinor and Margaret Dashwood. I'm glad I read the book even though it did disappoint me in that it was quite a struggle to finish - the characters didn't really amaze me at all and the plot was pretty good but I'm not sure I'd say it was great.
I watched the film the other day with my mum and really enjoyed it! I ADORE Jane Austen film/tv adaptations. This movie version had Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Laurie, and other big names starring in it. It was pretty funny, especially Edward Ferrars (Hugh Grant) - I called him a wombat (because of how he walks, his stature, how he looks, and how he struggles to form sentences and stumbles on his words a lot); my mum and I were laughing hysterically.

*Day 17 – Favourite quote(s) from your favourite book(s)*
I've been putting this one off for quite some time, thinking that I'll have to somehow get out all my favourite books and compile all my favourite quotes. I just realised that that isn't possible! It would take about 12479587376 years for me to do that. So why even bother trying? Instead I'm going to just show you a few of my favourite quotes - ones that stopped me in my tracks and had me writing them down. Or ones that just made me laugh hysterically.
Seeing as you know my favourite writers and my favourite books it won't be hard to guess that my other favourite quotes stem from those.

*Day 15 – Favourite male character*
This is hard! I can't pick only one.
Here is a short list of wonderful male characters I have had the delight of meeting in my lifetime of reading:
Neville Longbottom
Neville is a loyal member of Dumbledore's Army and loyal friend of Harry Potter. He is talented and special in his own unique way, and these qualities bring out the best in him. I would pay big bucks to have a friend like Neville.
Edmund Pevensie

He is Edmund the Just, (younger) King of Narnia. Yes, his judgement and decision-making skills may have been slightly flawed in The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe, but if you've read the books, you'll know that Edmund redeems himself, and becomes one of C.S. Lewis' most beloved characters - at least in my eyes.
King Trevor the Four Hundred and Forty First or is it Second
From Colin Thompson's children's novel Pepper Dreams, King Trevor is definitely a character to behold. A little bit strange, but confidently confusing, he leads the magical island of Nymphaea with a chocolate bar in one hand and a bowl of soup in the other.
Gale Hawthorne

Katniss Everdeen's best friend and faithful hunting partner. There is no way Gale would miss out on a place on this list. Suzanne Collins knows how to write good characters. For some readers, the perfection of Peeta Mellark may melt their hearts, but Gale Hawthorne floats my dreamboat. (What, too lame? Don't care!) I like the soft-spoken, dark and brooding types. ;)
Jon Snow

From George RR Martin's epic fantasy series A Song of Ice & Fire, Jon Snow is the bastard child of Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell, and sworn brother of the Night's Watch. He is the most loving of all his siblings (yet he is only their half-brother) - and this is just one of his many endearing qualities.
Mr Darcy
Fitzwilliam Darcy.
'nough said.
