 When I heard the news of Louise Rennison's death, I was shocked and saddened. She is one of my favourite authors, and I thought she'd be around for way, way longer, writing books that would keep me laughing for the rest of my life. But unfortunately, that was not the case.

All I have left, and all the world has left of her, are the books she was able to get published in her lifetime - which, I know I'm making out to be not much (which it is! It is much! I can only dream to leave behind 13 published novels before I die) - but I'm just still reeling over the fact that I have just read her last novel, and now the only thing I can do is reread all of her books. Of course I'll still enjoy rereading the Georgia Nicolson series from beginning to end, but there will never again be something new for me to read from Louise Rennison, that wonderful, hilarious, fun-tastic, crazy humourous writer that brought so many joyous, teary-eyed-and-stomach-pained-from-laughing-so-hard memories to my childhood (and who am I kidding, adulthood too).

Okokok. It's probably time I talk about this book already, huh? Ok.

wowzies this was such a fun read! i think a midsummer tights dream was even better than withering tights! 

llulah is back at dother hall with her knobbly knees, her crazy tree sisters and her spectacular spontaneous irish dancing. much larks for tallulah casey in this hilariously written sequel of her misadventures.

in this book llulah's having a bit of trouble in the love department of life - she's been snogged and rejected by a really good-looking, good-snogging guy; her dream boy Alex the Good is away at theatre college or something; and a dark brooding crow named Cain Hinchcliff has just beaten her in a staring competition by licking a hailstone off her face. 

anyway, i loved this book, i love Louise Rennison, i love tallulah and her pals, the woolfe boys and especially cain. Cain is the modern-day Byronic hero of a midsummer tights dream. he seems to always lurk in the shadows and pops out whenever llulah thinks she's alone and acts silly, e.g. happy irish dancing alone in a barn or hanging upside down on a tree branch.

if you fancy a light read that will make you laugh out loud, look no further.

it really left me nothing to be desired especially with the glorious references to the bronte sisters, jane eyre and wuthering heights. i am certainly looking forward to february next year when the third book comes out!

A Midsummer Tights Dream by Louise Rennison

The sequel to Withering Tights, this is the second book Rennison's newest tween series about Tallulah Casey, Georgia Nicolson's younger cousin. Yay! I love the bright stripey cover with the shiny blue bits and the huge pop of colour! 

Shakespeare's Sonnets by William Shakespeare

I chose this Folger Shakespeare Library version to buy because I wanted to read the sonnets but I needed help understanding them. Shakespeare can really confuse me sometimes! OK, let's face it - all of the time. This version has detailed notes etcetera so hopefully they'll help break it down for me!

Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter

I love the Gallagher Girls series a lot. I can't believe it has taken me this long to get my hands on the fifth instalment! Excited to get into Cammie's spy life again. Ally Carter is AWESOME.

I've been putting this one off for quite some time, thinking that I'll have to somehow get out all my favourite books and compile all my favourite quotes. I just realised that that isn't possible! It would take about 12479587376 years for me to do that. So why even bother trying? Instead I'm going to just show you a few of my favourite quotes - ones that stopped me in my tracks and had me writing them down. Or ones that just made me laugh hysterically.
Seeing as you know my favourite writers and my favourite books it won't be hard to guess that my other favourite quotes stem from those.

Tallulah Casey is the artsy, funny cousin of Georgia Nicolson. She's 14 and off to performing arts school for the summer, and so the misadventures begin!!
If you're into a funny, light, tween read in the style of the fabulous Louise Rennison - you shall not be disappointed!

I'm a strong believer that laughter is the best medicine, so books from any of these writers: Jaclyn Moriarty, Sophie Kinsella, Louise Rennison- fall under today's theme. 

New On My Bookshelf

My life has taken a scary turn recently (in a good way). 

I've spent the past one and a half years "studying" (not that I really studied very much) Chemical & Process Engineering. This last semester I've realised I couldn't keep doing it anymore because I was miserable and wasn't at all following my dreams. 

Everyone (well, every normal person) I've talked to about this has said I would really regret it if I kept doing something I didn't enjoy. I didn't enjoy engineering at all. And I did regret it. 

I regret it Big Time. 

Now I've realised the only way I'll be successful is if I begin to hone my talents and follow my dreams. 

So! Onto the books. This semester (ie, tomorrow - eep!) I'm starting my Arts degree, majoring in English and probably Classics & Ancient History as well. That's why you see Greek Mythology, The Annals of Imperial Rome and the Twelve Caesars up in that photo, along with Jane Eyre. 

I bought Heist Society 2: Uncommon Criminals from Target in the United States. 

Really excited to hold an Ally Carter hardcover! All my Gallagher Girls books and my copy of Heist Society are the Aussie paperbacks (whose covers totally under-represent the books). 

I've heard this one is many people's childhood favourites so I knew I needed to check it out!

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I accidently got two copies of Withering Tights so I'm giving one away. I'm really excited about this series because I absolutely loved the Georgia Nicolson series and Louise Rennison is a hilarious writer. :)

I had to get Jane Eyre for the English unit I'm taking this semester (Romance: Narratives of Imagination). This should be a fun unit because we're required to watch movies too! Princess Bride is one of them. :D

GIVEAWAY: Withering Tights by Louise Rennison

Hi again! I'm back in beautiful Perth where I'm happy to call home. 

I probably shouldn't feel bad that I spent my entire US holiday eating, sleeping, touring, lounging in front of the telly, and not paying attention to my blogs, like, at all. But I do, because I told you this post would be me, saying Howdy! from Texas (like, 4 weeks ago).

Anyway, I got back yesterday arvo and collected my mail, which included 2 copies of Withering Tights by Louise Rennison. I only ordered one! So, together with my reasoning that it's not too early on in this blog life to host a giveaway, and my tendency to avoid dealing with things (like complaining to Borders Online that I didn't want two copies), I'm giving you, beloved followers (and potential beloved followers), the chance to win my extra copy!

The only Borders store in Western Australia (in Perth CBD) was having their 40% off sale, and I think I found out about it pretty late because so much stuff was gone! Yesterday after my math exam I went into the store and I ran (ermm.. walked briskly?) down the escalator to the MG/YA section and could only find ONE thing I wanted to buy....
